I thought I'd post a few pictures from an outing to Silverman gallery from last night. Silverman is a gallery near our apartment and we figured with all the new DogPatch neighbors (represent!) we'd invite them all over to check it out. We had Frank, Heather, Yann, Caroline, Sekimura, Mayuko, and from out of neighborhood, Beau, Gladys and Chris.
We had a great dinner at Pacino on 22nd and Tennessee. Its a tiny place that just opened about 2 months ago and has just started serving food (they began and continue with the ever amazing Blue Bottle coffee in the mornings). Everyone ordered the pizza's they have there and most got the asparagus pizza with 2 fried eggs on top...yum! I can't pass over anchovies, so I got the anchovy and olive pizza which was delicious.
Afterward we walked two blocks to 3rd and 20th where the Silverman gallery is. Its a small space and it had a lot of mixed media installation art; manequin torsos with designer jeans and skater sneakers, words painted on the walls, found objects and paper machete. We only had a few minutes to look at the art before the live performance started. I thought this would be some kind of modern interpretive dance, but it turned out to be a band from Quebec, Canada. I guess you could say there was still interpretive dance because she was literally bouncing off the walls. She seriously danced on all four surfaces of the room. The music was keyboards and drums with disco beats to which she screamed lyrics while wrapping the mic around her head.
Unfortunately the gallery was too dark and she was moving too fast to get any good pictures. I did get a few good pictures of some of the fine folks that agreed to come try out a tiny unknown gallery. Thanks to everyone; lets do it again sometime!
[c’est top] Thanks for inviting us !! It was a nice evening, and the singer was so amazing... you described her very well ;)
So, I guess the dogpatch is the place to live now... I'm looking forward the next time !
