Today I had a strange commute. It was raining pretty hard so I waited for the bus. I normally just walk because the bus never comes and usually when it does its totally packed. A bus packed with wet people is not my idea of fun, but given the relentlessness of the rain, I decided to chance it.
After 25 min. not one, but two buses finally arrived. The first one was already packed past the yellow line and all the way to the back, so I let that one go by and waited for the one behind it. This bus had nobody standing and plenty of room. It drove right by without stopping.
So I walked. Near the new Octavia St. park, this guy in a hoodie asked me if I knew what time it was. He looked like he was late for something. I said I thought it was 9:30. He kept talking and asked something else, so I took off my earphones.
"What?" I asked.
"Is it 9 am or pm" he asked.
"AM" I said.
"OH" he said.
I'm guessing he was very late.
When I finally got to the underground stop I caught an inbound N. I stood up near the front so I could see down the tunnel and I noticed that the driver was reading the bible. He had one hand on the door switch, and a light on the dashboard said "Automatic Mode". Looks like he was just another passenger on the train. I don't think he looked up the entire time I was riding.
At 4th and Market I caught the 45 and sat with Ginevra. I guess she was on the first of the two busses that passed by me. I guess its just as fast to walk down to the underground MUNI than to wait for the sad old 21
